Opportunity

We are hiring an ambitious and entrepreneurial investment professional to join our pro-active, hands-on investment team at Sagana. You will play a critical role in leading sector thought leadership, pipeline building, due diligence, portfolio management to drive successful financial and impact outcomes for Sagana’s global portfolio of directs and funds.

You will be responsible for proactively building and managing a pipeline of high-potential opportunities. This includes originating and sourcing deals, conducting market landscaping, leading due diligence, and driving execution across Seed-to-Growth-stage investments.

The sector focus for this role has broadened from a narrow energy requirement to climate, energy, and circular economy. This may include thematics such as energy transition, energy storage, energy efficiency, industrial decarbonization, sustainable materials, clean mobility, clean hydrogen, carbon capture and utilization, circular business models, waste reduction, resource efficiency and related climate solutions.

While climate, energy and circular economy will be the primary focus, we are also open to strong investment profiles with experience in adjacent impact sectors, including healthcare, food and agriculture, particularly where candidates bring strong investment judgement and the ability to translate their experience across sectors.

You will also take a highly engaged role in portfolio management - working directly with founders and leadership teams to help shape business strategy, strengthen operations, support capital raises, improve reporting, and drive impact performance.

We are looking for someone with strong investment experience, a pro-active and critical mindset, strong commercial judgement, and the ability to add value to portfolio companies beyond the point of investment.

Responsibilities

• Proactively source and evaluate investment opportunities across climate, energy, and circular economy in developed and emerging markets.
• Actively contribute to building a strong deal pipeline by engaging with accelerators, incubators, founders, investors, and other ecosystem players across the world.
• Conduct initial screens and execute the due diligence process, including commercial, operational, financial, and impact analysis.
• Prepare investment materials and contribute to internal investment committee discussions and recommendations.
• Lead the structuring and execution of investments using a range of instruments, including equity and flexible capital solutions.
• Build relationships with founders and support ongoing engagement with portfolio companies.
• Take an active, hands-on role in portfolio management, supporting companies with business strategy, operations, fundraising, reporting, and impact measurement.
• Lead and contribute to capacity building efforts for portfolio companies, providing strategic and operational guidance to help them grow and strengthen their foundations for scale and future investment.
• Support efficient portfolio reporting across financial, operational, and impact metrics, contributing to high-quality internal and external reporting.
• Identify and recommend, when necessary, partners and resources to support portfolio needs in areas such as talent, finance, governance, sales, fundraising and commercial growth.
• Work with portfolio companies in an outcome-driven way, helping them identify priorities, track progress, and address key risks and opportunities.
• Monitor financial and impact performance across the portfolio and contribute to internal and external reporting.
• Contribute to market landscaping and ecosystem research to inform sourcing and strategic direction.
• Represent Sagana in ecosystem events, networking opportunities, and sector convenings, with guidance from senior team members.

Skills and Experience

• Ideally 4-8 years of relevant experience in venture capital, private equity, impact investing, ideally with exposure to early-stage or growth-stage investments in Europe, USA or emerging markets.
• Strong investment experience, including sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, investment analysis, execution, and portfolio engagement.
• Demonstrated track record of having sourced and evaluated commercially attractive and impactful deals and added value to portfolio companies.
• Experience across climate, energy, and circular economy sectors is strongly preferred.
• Strong candidates with investment experience in adjacent impact sectors, including healthcare, food and agriculture, will also be considered, particularly where they can demonstrate the ability to translate their investment experience across sectors.
• Strong portfolio management experience, including efficient reporting, value creation, monitoring performance, supporting capital raises, and helping companies work towards clear financial and impact outcomes.
• Experience supporting portfolio companies through follow-on rounds, fundraising processes, strategic partnerships, operational improvements or exit-related processes would be highly valuable.
• Ability to understand complex technologies, conduct detailed competitive evaluation and explain in easy manner to a wider audience.
• Strong commercial judgement and analytical rigor, with the ability to assess business models, market dynamics, teams, risks and opportunities.
• Strong network of founders, co-investors, ecosystem players globally or regionally.
• Highly motivated, resourceful, pro-active, critical thinker and entrepreneurial - able to take initiative, learn quickly, and contribute to a lean, fast-paced team.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate across cultures and stakeholder groups.
• Excellent communication skills - able to contribute to clear, compelling analysis and recommendations.
• Fluent in English.
